Doncaster is a large market town in South Yorkshire with a population in excess of 300,000. Doncaster is renowned for its horse racing, railway and mining heritage and wealth of Georgian and Regency architecture. It is home to Doncaster Racecourse which hosts two of Great Britain's 31 Group 1 flat races and Doncaster Sheffield Airport which offers flights to over 30 worldwide destinations.

Doncaster town centre lies to the south of the River Don, circa 20 miles (30 km) north east of Sheffield, 33 miles south east of Leeds and 42 miles south of York. The train station in Doncaster offers direct rail links to London, Leeds, York and Edinburgh via the East Coast Mainline, as well as Manchester, Sheffield, Hull and a number of other northern towns and cities. The town is also well connected to nearby motorway network with the A1(M) to the west and M18 to the south which connect with the M1 further east and M62 to the north.
